Renovating a kitchen or redesigning a kitchen can be a vast
improvement when considering updating a kitchen on a budget. For example, instead of replacing cabinets, it is much less expensive to renovate the kitchen by refacing the existing cabinets or refinishing them in a different color or finish, and then changing the hardware.
There are simple things that you can do to create the illusion of a larger kitchen by tricking the eye with effective use of color and design.
There are three rules to renovating your kitchen that should guide your kitchen project.
1. Choose a simple color palette and stick to it. Whether you decide to pick bold colors or neutral, select two colors and then create your theme around these. The idea of having a simple color theme will enable you to make the most of your space and make the space look and feel larger.
2. Use contrasts effectively. Pick contrasts to appeal to the eye, such as smooth counters and matt flooring, or modern cabinetry and rustic tables. Each of the contrasts will engage the eye and add interest to the room. Especially because you spend so much time in the kitchen, it's important to evolve the design in a pleasing and subtle way.
3. Break the first rule by adding a third color to give focus and attention to specific elements of the space. Adding a color to a corner will subtly create a feeling of dimensionality to the room. Even adding a splash of color on a cabinet island can enhance the room and showcase the island as a featured element of the kitchen.
To replace cabinet doors and hardware will make your kitchen appear to be completely new and can update the kitchen despite a small budget.
It's up to you how creative you feel you'd like to be. Remember, renovating your kitchen on a budget is entirely possible and realistic. Your dream kitchen may be closer than you think!
