The doorway to your home is the first impression that a guest has
of your residence. Although it may seem obvious, so many people neglect to evaluate how much the entryway means to the value of your home. Refinishing the front door, instead of replacing it, may be an economical option to improve the value of your home, or to update an outdated entrance way.
Whether you are putting you home on the market, and seeking "curb appeal", or just want to make a great impression when guests come to a family event or function, try looking at the front door as if you've never seen it before. If you are like many people, you may enter your home through the garage and you just don't use the front door that often. If you did, you may notice that the brass kickplate is tarnished, the wood is faded from the sun, and the wood is scratched and moldy.
There is hope.
Even without replacing the door, you can have the entry way spruced up and made to look like new. Staining the wood can freshen the appearance and match new decor. Fittings can be polished or replaced, dependent upon their condition and your taste. Simply updating the hardware can take years off the appearance and make a dated front door look contemporary.
It helps to have a professional and trained set of eyes when determining how to deal with a dated doorway.
If you are planning that graduation party or summer home wedding, it may be time to take a peek at that entry door and make a few updates. You'd be surprised how much something as simple as refinishing the front door can make a huge difference in the entire experience of entering your home.
How do you think the entrance or door to a home influences your impression of the housekeeping? Have you ever been to a home where the front door was elegant, but the rest of the home was a dump? Conversely, have you ever been to a home with a poorly maintained front door and the rest of the home is elegant?
